Renovation and extension of an existing two storey heritage listed Victorian residence; Malmsbury, c1890.
The existing residence is an architecturally significant illustration of high quality housing strategically placed on Hawthorn Hill, which was owned by notable early Hawthorn brickmakers Auguste Fritsch in 1889-90 and, from 1891-92, by John Holzer. Significant heritage features include highly individual, rich and exuberant use of polychrome brickwork.
Renovation works were carefully undertaken, working within the constraints of the existing building footprint. Demolition of an outmoded 1980’s extension allowed for the construction of a new casual living zone, discretely connecting to the rear of the original 1890’s residence.
